PART 2 — The Truth Beneath the Rain

PART 2 — The Truth Beneath the Rain
Maya didn’t understand the word sister at first.
She only understood the way the woman was looking at her—like the world had cracked open and something precious had been buried inside it.
“You’re lying,” Maya whispered, backing away on her knees in the puddle. “I don’t have anyone.”
The woman reached for her slowly, like approaching something fragile.
“I was told Anna died,” she said, voice breaking. “And her baby with her. I searched for years… I—”
The little boy tugged at his mother’s sleeve.
“Mommy, she gave me the rose.”
That snapped something in her face. She looked at the crushed flowers scattered in the water, then back at Maya’s trembling hands.
“I didn’t know,” she said, barely audible. “God… I didn’t know you existed.”
Maya shook her head hard, tears spilling.
“People don’t just appear.”
But the woman was already reaching into her handbag, pulling out a folded photograph with shaking fingers.
She held it out.
A younger Anna. Smiling. Holding a baby wrapped in a yellow blanket.
The same blanket Maya once dreamed about but never understood why.
Maya’s breath caught.
Because that baby… was her.
Before she could step back again, a black car screeched to the curb.
Doors opened.
Men stepped out.
And one of them said sharply,
“Ma’am. We’ve been searching for you. Your family estate just confirmed the inheritance documents. You are not supposed to be here alone with—”
He stopped.
May you like
Saw Maya.
And went silent.
