Chapter 2: The Name That Changed Everything

Chapter 2: The Name That Changed Everything

The guards moved without hesitation.

"Ms. Harrington," the lead officer said calmly, "please come with us."

Chloe took a step backward.

"You can't remove me."

"My father is on the museum's board."

The officer's expression never changed.

"We're aware."

"But our instructions come from someone else."

The room fell silent.

Guests who had laughed only moments earlier quietly lowered their champagne glasses.

No one seemed eager to stand beside Chloe anymore.

"This is ridiculous!" she shouted, pointing at Victoria.

"Who do you think you are?"

Victoria folded her hands in her lap.

"I never asked anyone to know my name."

"But perhaps it's time."

The ballroom doors opened again.

This time, the museum director hurried inside, followed by several members of the board.

The director walked straight past Chloe.

Straight past the gathered guests.

He stopped before Victoria and bowed his head respectfully.

"Ms. Sterling."

"My sincerest apologies."

"The responsibility for your safety and comfort is ours."

A ripple of shock swept across the room.

Someone whispered,

"He's apologizing... to her?"

The director turned toward the security team.

"Escort Ms. Harrington from the premises."

"Her invitation is revoked."

"And notify the board that her family's sponsorship privileges are suspended pending review."

Chloe's eyes widened.

"You can't do that!"

"My family has donated millions!"

The director answered quietly.

"And Ms. Sterling donated the building."

The words landed like thunder.

Every face in the ballroom turned toward the woman in the wheelchair.

The elegant gallery.

The marble entrance.

The priceless collections surrounding them.

None of it would have existed without her.
