Chapter 3 — The Truth Behind the Ivory Gown

One of the gala organizers hurried over.

"We'll issue a statement immediately."

Henri raised a hand.

"There's something everyone should know first."

He gently placed his hand on the young woman's shoulder.

"This is Elena."

Three hundred guests waited.

Henri smiled.

"For the last seven years..."

"She has been my apprentice."

A wave of surprise swept through the ballroom.

"I've taught thousands of students."

"But only one ever understood that fashion isn't about being seen."

"It's about making people feel seen."

He looked at Elena.

"The prototype wasn't created for a museum."

"It was created for her."

The room became even quieter.

Henri continued.

"Tonight..."

"I intended to announce my retirement."

"And introduce the next Creative Director of the Laurent House."

The applause began slowly.

Then grew louder.

The woman in the gold gown stood frozen.
