CHAPTER 2: The Secret Inside the Vault

CHAPTER 2: The Secret Inside the Vault

The golden light spilling from the vault was not magic.

It came from antique brass lamps that automatically switched on whenever the heavy door opened.

Yet, in that silent moment, it felt almost supernatural.

No one spoke.

No one dared to move.

The little girl stepped toward the opening, her tiny fingers still resting on the brass wheel.

"It remembers me," she whispered again.

The chief of security hurried to the control panel.

His hands trembled as he checked every monitor.

"That's impossible," he muttered.

"The lock was never disengaged."

The branch manager frowned.

"Then how did it open?"

No one had an answer.

The little girl looked around the room as though she had been there before.

Her eyes stopped on an old wooden cabinet tucked into the far corner of the vault.

"There," she said quietly.

"My daddy's box."

The adults exchanged puzzled looks.

The bank manager slowly walked inside.

The cabinet contained dozens of forgotten safe-deposit cases that had never been claimed after their owners passed away.

One dusty metal box sat on the top shelf.

Its tag had almost faded completely.

HARPER FAMILY – UNCLAIMED

The manager's face lost all color.

Daniel Harper.

The brilliant engineer who had designed the vault twenty-six years earlier.

He had died in a car accident only weeks before the bank opened.

Because no next of kin had ever appeared, his personal deposit box had remained untouched ever since.

The little girl smiled softly.

"My daddy said he'd leave me something beautiful."

Her mother gasped.

"Emma..."

She knelt beside her daughter.

"Sweetheart... your father died before you were born."

Emma nodded.

"I know."

"He told me in my dream where to find it."

No one laughed this time.

The bank's attorney was called before the forgotten box was opened.

Inside were blueprints, an old photograph, a silver pocket watch... and a sealed envelope with one sentence written across the front.

For My Daughter, If She Ever Finds This.
