Chapter 3: The Truth Behind the Disappearance

An elderly hotel manager quietly stepped forward.

"There is something you deserve to know."

He had worked at the hotel for over twenty years.

"I hired Helen after she arrived here with nothing."

"She never stopped searching for you."

Tony looked at Helen.

"Why didn't you come to my house?"

She smiled sadly.

"I did."

"Your family turned me away."

"They told me you were engaged."

"They said you never wanted to see me again."

Tony's face drained of color.

"My parents told me you had chosen another man."

Helen gently wiped away her son's tears.

"I was already carrying our child."

The ballroom erupted in shocked whispers.

The little boy looked up.

"So... he's my daddy?"

Tony dropped to one knee.

Tears streamed freely down his face.

"Yes."

"If you'll let me be."

The child studied him for a long moment.

Then slowly reached out his tiny hand.

Tony took it carefully.

A lifetime of separation ended with the smallest touch.
