Chapter 2: The Silent Alarm

Chapter 2: The Silent Alarm
The first security guard through the penthouse doors froze for half a heartbeat.
Not because Elias Thorne stood over his bleeding daughter.
Because Julianna was smiling.
It wasn't the smile of someone who had won.
It was the smile of someone whose plan had survived the first blow.
Blood trickled from a cut above her temple, slipping onto the polished marble beside shattered glass.
Little Lily broke free from the corner and ran toward her mother.
"Mom!"
Julianna wrapped one arm around the trembling child while never taking her eyes off Elias.
"You shouldn't have done that."
Elias rested both hands on the silver head of his cane.
"I already did."
His voice remained perfectly calm.
"You've mistaken sentiment for leverage."
"No," Julianna replied quietly.
"I counted on your pride."
One of the guards stepped forward.
"Mr. Thorne?"
"Escort Ms. Thorne from the residence."
Before anyone moved, every light inside the penthouse dimmed.
The walls, normally displaying abstract artwork, suddenly transformed into black screens.
Then white text appeared.
THORNE GLOBAL—EMERGENCY GOVERNANCE PROTOCOL ACTIVATED.
Every phone in the room vibrated simultaneously.
Elias reached into his jacket.
For the first time in decades...
His expression changed.
The notification came directly from the Board of Directors.
Chairman Authority Suspended Pending Immediate Review.
He stared at the screen.
Impossible.
He had personally selected every board member.
Julianna slowly stood despite the pain.
"You always taught me something, Father."

Elias looked up.
"Never build an empire that depends on only one person."
