Chapter 1: The Board's Decision

Chapter 1: The Board's Decision

The city skyline shimmered beyond the glass walls as Evelyn Carter waited inside a quiet conference room.

She had spent twelve years helping Adrian Wolfe transform a struggling hotel chain into one of the most respected hospitality brands in the country. While the magazines celebrated Adrian as a visionary, few knew Evelyn had negotiated the acquisitions, secured the financing, and built the relationships that made every expansion possible.

Tonight, Adrian believed he had finally erased her from the company.

He was wrong.

At 11:18 p.m., every board member joined the emergency video conference.

No one smiled.

The company's lead counsel placed a thick folder on the polished table.

"The ownership structure established twelve years ago has now been activated."

One by one, documents appeared on the large display.

Voting trusts.

Preferred shares.

Founding agreements.

Every signature had been verified.

Adrian's controlling interest had always depended on conditions he had quietly violated.

When the final document appeared, silence filled the room.

The chairwoman looked directly into the camera.

"Mr. Wolfe, effective immediately, your authority as Chief Executive Officer is suspended pending a full governance review."

Adrian laughed.

"You can't remove me."

The attorney calmly replied,

May you like

"We already have."

For the first time that evening, confidence disappeared from Adrian's face.
