Two weeks later, Harold sat beside the same floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Manhattan.
This time, Dr. Harrow was present.
So was his attorney.
So was Adrian.
Mara quietly organized Harold's medication before preparing to leave for the evening.
"Miss Ellis."
She turned.
Harold smiled gently.
"Thank you."
She blinked in surprise.
"For believing I was still worth protecting."
Mara smiled for the first time since Adrian had returned home.
"You always were."
Outside, the November sky had begun to clear.
Sunlight reflected from the surrounding towers, filling the penthouse with warm light that had been missing for far too long.
Sometimes families are broken by dramatic betrayals.
Sometimes they are damaged much more quietly—through neglected responsibilities, unanswered messages, and small acts of control that grow over time.
And sometimes, justice doesn't begin with a courtroom.
It begins with one person asking a simple question that everyone else was afraid to ask:
