CHAPTER 4 – Home at Last

CHAPTER 4 – Home at Last
The house felt strangely quiet after the cars disappeared.
Lena looked around at the spotless living room.
"I never wanted to come between you and your mother."
"You didn't."
"They did."
Ethan led her back to the kitchen.
Without a word, he rolled up his sleeves.
Together, they washed the few remaining dishes.
This time, she wasn't standing alone.
A month later, they welcomed a healthy baby girl into the world.
When Ethan held his daughter for the first time, he whispered a promise:
"You will grow up knowing that love is never measured by how much you endure."
"It's measured by how safely you're allowed to live."
Years later, their daughter would ask why there were so few family photos from that time.
Ethan would smile and answer,
"Because the day I finally stood up for your mother..."
May you like
"...was the day our real family began."
The End.
