Chapter 3 – The Truth Plays on Screen

Chapter 3 – The Truth Plays on Screen

Less than an hour later, a private conference room inside the hotel became an evidence room.

Police officers.

Hotel management.

Several witnesses.

And Preston's family.

Everyone watched the security footage.

The first video showed Sophie sitting quietly beside her mother for nearly the entire reception.

Coloring on the back of her menu.

Laughing at the flower arrangements.

Never once approaching the head table.

The second camera showed Preston walking behind Sophie's chair while guests were distracted by the bride's speech.

He looked over both shoulders.

Reached into his tuxedo pocket.

Pulled out his titanium phone.

Then slipped it into the pocket of Sophie's denim jacket.

The room fell silent.

"Oh my God..."

Someone whispered.

The third recording was even worse.

It showed Evelyn stepping in front of her daughter after the accusation.

Preston ripping the heavy oak menu board from its stand.

Then swinging it into the side of an eight-year-old girl's head.

There was no struggle.

No threat.

Only a terrified child.

The video ended.

The police officer slowly closed his notebook.

"Mr. Preston Carter..."

"You are under arrest."

His bride burst into tears.

Richard and Margaret—who had defended him moments earlier—stood frozen.

Neither could deny what every person in the room had just seen.

The truth had spoken.

And it spoke in high definition.
