Damian's phone continued vibrating.
Account access suspended.
Board privileges revoked.
Corporate credit facilities frozen.
One notification after another.
He looked around the executive boardroom.
Only an hour earlier, every person there had rushed to agree with him.
Now no one met his eyes.
The chairman quietly slid a folder across the table.
"Mr. Moretti..."
"Your resignation has been accepted."
Damian stared blankly.
"I never resigned."
"You didn't."
"The board voted."
Silence.
Unanimously.
Veronica stepped toward Elena.
"This isn't fair."
"We made mistakes."
"Everyone deserves another chance."
Elena looked at her calmly.
"I agree."
"Everyone deserves a chance."
She paused.
"But chances are given before someone chooses to abuse power."
"Not after."
Security escorted Veronica from the executive floor without another word.
