Chapter 3 – The Price of Silence

Chapter 3 – The Price of Silence
Police investigators entered through a secured service entrance.
One by one, they interviewed every witness before anyone was allowed to leave.
Some guests admitted they had been afraid.
Others claimed they hadn't wanted to become involved.
Detective Sarah Collins looked around the room.
"Fear explains silence."
"It doesn't erase responsibility."
Grant's attorney arrived just after midnight.
He watched the surveillance footage only once.
Then quietly closed his briefcase.
"We're not contesting the authenticity of the recordings."
The evidence was overwhelming.
Multiple camera angles.
Body-camera footage from security officers.
Statements from witnesses.
Medical reports documenting Mara's injuries.
Grant was taken into custody.
As officers escorted him away, he turned toward Mara.
"You ruined my life."
She met his eyes calmly.
"No."
"You made your choices."
"Today, everyone simply saw them."
The investigation did not end with Grant.
Authorities also examined allegations that members of his business network had used intimidation to silence employees and manipulate contracts.
Some guests who had looked away that evening later agreed to cooperate with investigators.
The sealed museum had become the beginning of a much larger inquiry.
