Chapter 1: Every Witness Has a Name

No one spoke.

The only sound inside the Hawthorne Museum was the distant hum of the security system.

Grant finally found his voice.

"You can't imprison people."

"I didn't," I replied calmly.

"I preserved a crime scene."

The tactical officers spread through the gallery with practiced precision.

A senator demanded diplomatic immunity.

A hedge fund billionaire threatened lawsuits.

A retired judge insisted he knew the governor personally.

"All surveillance feeds have been secured."

"Audio recordings have been archived."

"Every entrance has remained under continuous observation since 6:00 p.m."

Grant swallowed.
