Chapter 2: A Mother's Greatest Betrayal

Chapter 2: A Mother's Greatest Betrayal

The footage was enhanced frame by frame.

The figure wore a hood.

But one detail remained visible.

A bracelet.

Gold.

With three emerald stones.

Ethan recognized it immediately.

He had given that bracelet to his mother for her sixtieth birthday.

Margaret's hands began to shake.

"It proves nothing."

The lead investigator remained calm.

"It proves someone tampered with Mrs. Carter's vehicle."

Mechanics performed a second inspection.

The original accident report had blamed brake failure caused by poor maintenance.

Now they found fresh tool marks.

The brake line hadn't worn out.

It had been cut.

Ethan felt as though the room were spinning.

He looked at his mother.

"Tell me you didn't."

Margaret burst into tears.

"I never meant to hurt her."

"I only wanted to scare her."

"She was convincing you to move away."

"I was going to lose my son."

The confession echoed through the room.

Lena quietly covered her mouth.

Ava closed her eyes.
