Unable to carry the burden any longer, Lily arrived at Emma's house in tears.
"I never wanted to hurt you."
Emma folded her arms.
"Then tell me the truth."
Lily nodded.
"Daniel asked me to help him."
"He believed your father's death wasn't an accident."
Emma froze.
"What?"
Lily continued.
"Your father uncovered a massive real estate fraud involving several powerful investors."
"Before he could expose them... he died."
Daniel had secretly spent years gathering evidence.
The dinner Emma interrupted wasn't romantic.
It was supposed to be a confidential meeting.
Daniel had removed his shirt because his hidden recording device had been sewn inside it after being damaged during an earlier confrontation.
The blanket Lily wore covered stacks of confidential files spread across the couch.
