Chapter 10 – The Last Rescue

Chapter 10 – The Last Rescue

At the city's annual bravery ceremony, Noah stood nervously before the audience.

He never expected recognition.

He had only followed his conscience.

The Fire Chief handed him the department's highest lifesaving medal.

"You disobeyed a direct order."

The audience chuckled softly.

The Chief smiled.

"And because you did...

a mother and her child are alive today."

Emily stood in the front row holding her daughter.

When the applause filled the auditorium, she thought back to the darkness inside the elevator.

To the silence.

To believing no one was coming.

She had been wrong.

Sometimes the person you expect to save you walks past.

Sometimes the one who changes your life is the person whose name you never knew.

The scars on her hands faded.

The fear slowly disappeared.

But one lesson remained forever.

Love is not proven by promises.

May you like

It is proven by the choices people make when no one is watching.

The End.
