Chapter 3 – The Truth Hidden in the Foundation

Investigators uncovered a concealed storage space beneath the new flooring.

It had not been part of the original construction.

Someone had built it recently.

Inside were empty water bottles, canned food, children's blankets, and a battery-powered lantern.

This had not been an accident.

Someone had been keeping Leo hidden.

During questioning, Patricia insisted she knew nothing. She claimed the contractors must have created the compartment without telling her.

But the evidence told another story.

Store receipts showed Patricia had purchased every material used to seal the floor only days after Leo disappeared.

Security camera footage from a nearby gas station showed her buying food late at night for months.

The final blow came from Leo himself.

Though exhausted, he whispered to detectives that Aunt Patricia had told him he couldn't go home because "Daddy would leave forever if he found out the secret."

"What secret?" Daniel asked.

Leo looked at the floor before answering.

"I heard Aunt Patricia talking to someone. She said Grandpa's will wasn't real anymore if I disappeared."

Silence filled the hospital room.

Daniel suddenly remembered the family inheritance.

Their late father's estate had been scheduled to pass equally to Daniel and his children.

If Leo had legally been declared dead...

Everything would eventually belong to Patricia.

She had never planned to kill him immediately.

She intended to keep him hidden until hope faded and the law declared him gone forever.

The family they had trusted most had orchestrated the nightmare.
