Chapter 2: The Secret Behind the Screen

Chapter 2: The Secret Behind the Screen

The ballroom was frozen in silence.

Guests stood in shock as pieces of shattered glass covered the white marble floor.

Blood slowly traced a line down Elena's cheek, staining the lace of her wedding dress.

No one moved.

No one understood why the groom had suddenly destroyed the enormous LED screen that had been playing their childhood memories.

Julian dropped the baseball bat.

His breathing was ragged.

"Don't touch that screen!" he shouted.

Several guests instinctively stepped back.

Elena stared at him through tears.

"What are you talking about?"

He pointed toward the cracked display.

"It wasn't showing our wedding video."

"It was hacked."

The wedding technician rushed to the control booth.

"I... I don't understand. Someone replaced the presentation."

Despite the shattered display, one section of the screen flickered back to life.

A grainy surveillance video appeared.

The date in the corner read:

October 14 — Twenty Years Earlier.

A black SUV stopped outside an abandoned warehouse.

A little girl stepped out holding a stuffed rabbit.

Elena's breath caught.

The child...

Was her.

The crowd watched in stunned silence as another figure entered the frame.

A man in a dark suit.

His face was blurred.

But around his wrist was a distinctive silver watch.

Julian's father, Victor Ashcroft, suddenly turned pale.

"No..." he whispered.

"It can't be."

The video ended with a single sentence appearing across the damaged screen.
