Sophia expected Vincent Moretti to arrive surrounded by bodyguards.
Instead, he entered her hospital room alone.
His hair had turned silver.
His tailored suit couldn't hide the exhaustion in his eyes.
For a long moment, neither of them spoke.
Finally, Vincent placed a faded photograph on the bedside table.
It showed a much younger woman laughing beside a lake.
Sophia's mother.
"I carried this every day," he said.
"I searched for both of you for years."
Sophia looked at him carefully.
"You had enough power to find anyone."
"I had power," Vincent answered.
"I didn't have your mother's trust."
He didn't ask for forgiveness.
He didn't demand a place in her life.
