Chapter 1: The Midnight Reversal

Chapter 1: The Midnight Reversal

Marcus remained in the presidential suite, pouring himself a glass of expensive champagne while Isabella's sapphire brooch glittered on Vanessa's dress.

"To new beginnings," Marcus said with a satisfied smile.

Before Vanessa could raise her glass, someone knocked firmly on the suite door.

Marcus frowned.

"I told everyone not to disturb me."

When he opened the door, he found the hotel's General Manager, the Head of Security, the Chief Financial Officer, and two attorneys waiting outside.

"What is this?" Marcus demanded.

The General Manager stood unusually straight.

"Mr. Marcus Sterling, I'm afraid we have received new instructions from the Board of Directors."

Marcus laughed.

"I am the board."

One of the attorneys calmly handed him a folder.

"No, sir. You are the Chief Executive Officer. Ownership rests with Sterling Heritage Holdings."

Marcus barely glanced at the documents.

"So?"

The attorney continued.

"As of 11:42 p.m., the controlling shareholder exercised her voting rights."

Marcus's smile slowly disappeared.

"What controlling shareholder?"

The attorney looked directly into his eyes.

"Ms. Isabella Sterling."

Vanessa's face turned pale.

Marcus ripped open the folder.

Inside were trust agreements, shareholder records, and signatures he had never bothered to examine during countless meetings.

For eleven years, Isabella had quietly remained the majority owner.

Not because she wanted power.

Because her father believed love should never depend on money.

He wanted Marcus to build confidence believing the company was his achievement.

Isabella had agreed.

She wanted a husband—not a fortune hunter.

Marcus whispered,

"This... this can't be real."

"It is," replied the attorney.

"The Board has unanimously voted to suspend your executive authority pending investigation into financial misconduct, abuse of company assets, and violations of corporate ethics."

Security stepped forward.

"Mr. Sterling, we're here to escort you from the property."

Marcus stared in disbelief.

"You're throwing me out?"

The General Manager answered quietly.

"No, sir."

"You ordered us to remove the owner."

"Tonight, we're correcting that mistake."

As Marcus was escorted through the lobby, the same guests who had witnessed Isabella's humiliation watched in complete silence.

No one applauded.

No one laughed.

His own reflection in the marble floor became the last thing he saw before the revolving doors closed behind him.
