Chapter 9: The Fall of Julian Cross

Chapter 9: The Fall of Julian Cross

The world did not collapse for Julian Cross in one moment.

It happened slowly.

Piece by piece.

Like a building with a hidden crack that finally became impossible to ignore.

First, he lost Aurelia.

Then he lost his reputation.

Then he lost the people who once surrounded him.

But the most painful loss was something he never expected.

He lost the illusion that he had been winning.

For years, Julian believed he was the man who escaped an ordinary life.

The man who climbed higher than anyone expected.

The man who took control of his destiny.

Now he was beginning to understand the truth.

He had not climbed alone.

He had been carried.

And the person who carried him...

Was the woman he destroyed.

Three weeks after the boardroom battle, Julian Cross became a stranger in his own world.

The magazines that once praised him stopped calling.

The investors who once admired him stopped answering.

The people who once waited outside his office hoping for his attention now walked past him without recognition.

Power was strange.

It attracted people faster than anything.

And it disappeared even faster.

Julian sat inside a small private office he rented after losing access to Aurelia.

No ocean view.

No marble floors.

No assistants waiting outside.

Just silence.

His lawyer placed a folder on the desk.

"There is more."

Julian didn't look up.

"More bad news?"

The lawyer hesitated.

"Yes."

Julian laughed quietly.

"At this point, I'm surprised anything is still left to lose."

The lawyer opened the folder.

"The investor review is complete."

"And?"

"They believe there were multiple cases where your public statements exaggerated your ownership position."

Julian stared.

"Are you saying they are accusing me of fraud?"

The lawyer didn't answer directly.

That was answer enough.

Julian leaned back.

His hands tightened.

"They can't do this."

The lawyer looked at him.

"Why?"

"Because I built everything."

The lawyer remained silent.

And that silence reminded Julian of everyone else.

Everyone who stopped believing his story.

Meanwhile, Elena stood inside the original Aurelia Resort.

The first one.

The beginning.

She walked through the empty halls.

Remembering.

She remembered Julian here.

Young.

Excited.

Full of dreams.

"I want people to walk into this place and feel like they belong."

He had told her.

She remembered smiling.

"You really believe that?"

He had looked at her.

"Yes."

A painful thought crossed her mind.

Maybe that man had been real.

Maybe somewhere beneath all the ambition...

That man existed.

But he was buried under years of greed.

Her assistant approached.

"Ms. Bennett."

Elena turned.

"We found something."

"What?"

"A financial account."

She frowned.

"Whose?"

"Julian's."

Elena's expression changed.

"Where?"

The assistant hesitated.

"Hidden offshore."

The investigation had already revealed suspicious activity.

But this was different.

The account was created before Julian became CEO.

Before Aurelia expanded.

Before anyone knew his name.

Elena opened the documents.

And saw the transactions.

Payments.

Transfers.

Private communications.

Then one name appeared.

Richard Cross.

Julian's father.

Elena felt cold.

The past was repeating.

That evening, Julian met with the mysterious man again.

The man called himself Victor Hale.

"You promised me control."

Julian said.

Victor smiled.

"You had control."

"No."

Julian stepped forward.

"You gave me information."

"And you failed."

The words hit hard.

Julian's face changed.

"You knew this would happen."

Victor didn't deny it.

"You were always emotional."

"Emotional?"

Julian laughed.

"You manipulated me."

Victor leaned closer.

"No, Julian."

"I showed you an opportunity."

"You chose greed."

Silence.

Because Julian knew he was right.

For years, he blamed everyone else.

Elena.

Her family.

The board.

Investors.

But no one forced him to betray Elena.

No one forced him to lie.

No one forced him to believe he deserved everything.

Then Victor revealed the final truth.

"You want to know why your father failed?"

Julian looked at him.

"Why?"

"Because he made the same mistake you did."

"What?"

"He underestimated the Bennetts."

Victor smiled.

"Your father thought they were wealthy."

A pause.

"But they were something more dangerous."

"They were patient."

At the same time, Elena discovered another shocking document.

A letter from Julian.

Written before their wedding.

Not sent.

Never delivered.

She opened it.

The first line made her stop.

"Elena, I don't know if I will ever be brave enough to tell you the truth..."

Her hands shook.

She continued reading.

"When I first met you, I knew who you were."

Her heart sank.

"I knew your family name. I knew your influence."

Another line.

"But somewhere along the way, something changed."

Elena stopped.

Because she didn't know what came next.

She continued.

"I started forgetting the reason I wanted your world."

"And I started wanting you."

Elena stared at the letter.

The truth was complicated.

Painfully complicated.

Was Julian completely fake?

Or had a real love existed beneath the lies?

That night, Julian received a visit.

Not from a lawyer.

Not from Victor.

From Vanessa.

He looked surprised.

"What are you doing here?"

She looked different.

Not the confident woman from before.

Not the woman who wanted Elena's place.

Just Vanessa.

"I came to tell you something."

Julian waited.

"I found evidence."

"Of what?"

"Victor Hale."

Julian froze.

"What about him?"

Vanessa looked at him.

"He never planned to help you."

Julian said nothing.

"He planned to use you."

The silence was heavy.

"Why are you telling me?"

Julian asked.

Vanessa looked away.

"Because I finally understand something."

"What?"

"Elena wasn't your enemy."

A pause.

"Neither was I."

Julian looked at her.

For the first time...

He saw Vanessa clearly.

Not as a trophy.

Not as an escape.

A person.

"I ruined everything."

He whispered.

Vanessa didn't disagree.

"No."

She said quietly.

"You chose everything."

Later that night, Julian sat alone.

No empire.

No title.

No admiration.

Only memories.

The first time Elena laughed.

The first time she believed in him.

The first time she told him:

"I don't care what you have. I care who you are."

And he finally understood.

She had loved the man.

But he destroyed himself trying to become something bigger.

The next morning, Julian made a decision.

Not to fight.

Not to take revenge.

Not to win.

To tell the truth.

He contacted Elena.

"I need to meet you."

Elena looked at the message.

She almost ignored it.

But something made her answer.

"Where?"

His reply came quickly.

"The place where everything started."

The original Aurelia Resort.

When Elena arrived, Julian was already waiting.

He looked older.

Tired.

Broken.

Not the powerful CEO.

Not the man from magazines.

Just Julian.

"I know you hate me."

Elena said nothing.

"I deserve it."

That surprised her.

He continued.

"I spent years believing I was the victim."

A bitter smile.

"But the truth is..."

"I was the person who hurt everyone."

Elena watched him.

For the first time...

He wasn't defending himself.

He was admitting.

"I don't expect forgiveness."

A pause.

"I just need you to know..."

"I did love you."

Elena looked away.

"Maybe."

Julian nodded.

Because he knew he didn't deserve certainty.

Then he said:

"But I know one thing."

"What?"

"The best thing I ever had..."

"Was the woman I threw away."

Silence.

But before Elena could respond...

Her phone rang.

Alexander.

She answered.

His voice was urgent.

"Elena."

"What happened?"

A pause.

"Victor Hale has made his move."

Her expression changed.

"What did he do?"

Alexander's voice became serious.

"He accessed the Bennett Foundation records."

Elena froze.

The secret her family protected for generations...

Was exposed.

And Julian realized something.

This battle was never about losing Aurelia.

It was about something much bigger.

Something he had helped awaken.
