CHAPTER 4

CHAPTER 4

Elias Vale’s Hidden Kingdom

Most people believed power had a face.

They imagined powerful men sitting behind enormous desks.

They imagined private jets.

Luxury cars.

Security teams.

They imagined a name appearing in newspapers.

But real power was different.

Real power was invisible.

It existed in the places nobody looked.

In the quiet conversations.

In the forgotten documents.

In the decisions made before anyone else realized there was a decision to make.

For years, the world believed Elias Vale was a retired businessman who enjoyed a peaceful life away from public attention.

A man who had stepped away from the financial world.

A man who spent his days reading books, drinking coffee, and visiting his daughter.

That was the story Nathan Ashford believed.

That was the story everyone believed.

It was also the biggest mistake of their lives.

Because Elias Vale had never retired.

He had disappeared.

There was a difference.

When I was a child, my father never talked about money.

That was the strangest thing.

People who met wealthy families often assumed children grew up surrounded by luxury.

They imagined endless vacations.

Expensive gifts.

A life without limits.

But my father raised me differently.

He taught me patience.

Observation.

Discipline.

He taught me that the loudest person in the room was usually the person with the least control.

"Power does not announce itself," he once told me.

"People who truly have power don't need everyone to know."

At the time, I thought it was just advice.

I didn't understand it was a lesson.

A lesson from a man who had spent his entire life controlling things from the shadows.

The first time I entered Vale Dominion's headquarters, I finally understood why Nathan feared my father without knowing why.

The building did not look like an empire.

That was intentional.

No golden signs.

No giant name displayed outside.

No unnecessary attention.

Just a simple glass structure in the financial district.

A building that looked like thousands of others.

But beneath the surface...

Everything was different.

Security systems that could detect threats before they arrived.

Financial departments that tracked global movements.

Analysts who studied corporations before those corporations knew they were being studied.

Legal teams prepared for conflicts before anyone filed a lawsuit.

Information specialists who knew more about powerful people than those people knew about themselves.

Vale Dominion was not a company.

It was a nervous system.

A network.

A silent force connecting thousands of decisions around the world.

And my father was the brain.

I stood in his private office, looking at the screens covering the walls.

For years, I thought my father had left that world behind.

I was wrong.

He had simply hidden it from me.

"You knew."

My voice was quiet.

Elias looked at me.

"I knew what?"

"Everything."

He did not answer.

"You knew Nathan was dangerous."

A pause.

"You knew something was wrong."

Another pause.

"And you let me stay."

The silence that followed hurt more than anger.

Because my father did not deny it.

"I wanted you to leave."

"Then why didn't you make me?"

His expression changed.

Sadness.

Regret.

"You were never someone I could force."

That was true.

I had always been stubborn.

Even as a child.

But there was something else.

Something I needed to know.

"Did you know about Celeste?"

My father looked away.

"Not at first."

"And when you found out?"

His jaw tightened.

"I watched."

The answer shocked me.

"You watched?"

"Because I needed proof."

I stared at him.

For a moment, I saw not my father.

I saw Elias Vale.

The man who could destroy companies with a single decision.

The man who calculated everything.

Even pain.

"You treated my life like a strategy."

His expression softened.

"No."

He walked closer.

"I treated your future like something I had to protect."

I wanted to believe him.

But part of me was still hurt.

Because protection and control could look dangerously similar.

Something Nathan had taught me.

That night, Elias showed me a file.

A file that changed everything.

The cover contained one name.

VICTOR VALE

My father's brother.

The man I never knew existed.

I opened the first page.

A photograph.

Two young men.

My father and Victor.

They looked nothing alike.

Elias was calm.

Careful.

Controlled.

Victor's eyes were different.

Even in the photograph, there was something intense.

Something hungry.

"He was my older brother," my father said.

I looked at him.

"You never mentioned him."

"Because I wanted you to have a normal life."

A bitter smile appeared.

"Unfortunately, my past had other plans."

I continued reading.

Victor Vale was once considered the natural heir of the family.

Brilliant.

Charismatic.

Ambitious.

Many believed he would become the future leader of Vale Dominion.

Until one event changed everything.

Twenty-five years earlier.

A financial war.

A betrayal.

A disappearance.

The official story was that Victor had died after a failed business conflict overseas.

The unofficial truth...

Nobody knew.

Not even me.

"What happened between you two?"

My father stared at the window.

For a long time, he said nothing.

Then:

"Victor believed I stole his life."

"Did you?"

The question came out before I could stop it.

My father's face changed.

Not anger.

Pain.

"No."

A pause.

"But I understand why he thinks I did."

That answer confused me.

"Why?"

"Because sometimes..."

He looked at the photograph.

"The truth is not enough to change what someone believes."

Later that evening, another file appeared.

This one was about Nathan.

My hands tightened.

"Why does Victor have anything to do with Nathan?"

My father didn't answer immediately.

Then he opened the document.

A marriage proposal.

Four years earlier.

Nathan Ashford.

Me.

A series of financial notes.

My heart stopped.

"What is this?"

My father looked at me.

"This is why I was afraid."

I read the documents again.

Nathan did not accidentally enter my life.

Someone introduced him.

Someone planned the connection.

Someone wanted Ashford Global Logistics linked to Vale.

My voice became colder.

"Nathan married me because of my family."

My father nodded.

"But he didn't know the entire truth."

"What truth?"

Elias hesitated.

Then:

"Victor chose Nathan because he believed Nathan could destroy you."

The room went silent.

A horrible realization formed.

Nathan's cruelty.

Celeste's arrival.

The accusations.

The manipulation.

Maybe none of it started because Nathan changed.

Maybe someone helped create the monster.

My phone vibrated.

Another unknown message.

I already knew who it was before opening it.

The message contained a picture.

A recent picture.

Taken outside Vale Dominion.

It showed me entering the building.

The caption below was simple.

"Finally."

A second message appeared.

"The daughter of Elias Vale has returned to the throne."

My blood ran cold.

Because I had never told anyone I was there.

Not the investigators.

Not the media.

Not even Nathan.

Someone was watching.

Someone close enough to know my movements.

Then the final message arrived.

"Your father took everything from me."

"Now I will take the only thing he loves."

I stared at the screen.

My father reached for the phone.

But I pulled it back.

"No."

He looked at me.

For the first time in my life, I saw fear in his eyes.

"Listen to me."

I met his gaze.

"Nathan wanted to destroy me because he thought I was weak."

A pause.

"But Victor wants to destroy me because he knows exactly who I am."

The room became silent.

Because we both understood.

Nathan was a storm.

Victor was a war.

And storms could be survived.

But wars...

Wars changed everything.

Deep beneath an unknown city, a man watched the same message appear on his screen.

Silver hair.

Cold eyes.

A glass of untouched whiskey beside him.

Victor Vale smiled.

After twenty-five years...

The daughter of Elias Vale had finally stepped onto the board.

He looked at the photograph of me.

Then whispered:

"Your father taught you how to survive."

A pause.

"But I will teach you how to lose."

The screen went dark.

And somewhere in the world...

May you like

The real battle began.
