Chapter 1: The Pendant Speaks

Chapter 1: The Pendant Speaks
Nathan's laughter faded the moment the first helicopter circled above Ashford Estate.
The sound grew louder.
Then came another.
And another.
His confident smile slowly disappeared as black SUVs poured through the front gates, escorted by federal agents and private security wearing the crest of the Sinclair family.
His phone vibrated nonstop.
Account Frozen.
Emergency Board Meeting.
Trading Halted.
Federal Financial Crimes Division: Immediate Appearance Required.
"What is this?" Nathan shouted, grabbing his attorney's number.
No answer.
His chief financial officer?
Disconnected.
His private banker?
Unavailable.
Beside him, Vanessa—the woman who had spent months enjoying the luxury bought with stolen money—looked at me for the first time with genuine fear.
She noticed the sapphire pendant hanging against my bruised neck.
Then she noticed the family crest engraved on it.
Her face turned white.
"...Sinclair?"
I slowly stood despite the pain.
Blood stained the floor beneath my feet, but my voice remained steady.
"You finally recognize it."
Nathan frowned.
"Sinclair? What does that mean?"
Before anyone answered, the estate gates opened once more.
A silver helicopter landed on the lawn.
Out stepped my father.
Richard Sinclair.
Founder of Sinclair Global Holdings.
One of the wealthiest and most influential businessmen in the country.
Nathan stared in disbelief.
"You... you're her father?"
Richard didn't even acknowledge him.
He walked directly to me, removed his own coat, and gently wrapped it around my shoulders.
"I told you," he said quietly.
"Never leave before the snake reveals where it hides its poison."
I handed him the pendant.
"It recorded everything."
Richard passed it to an agent.
"Secure the original. Make ten encrypted copies."
Nathan suddenly lunged toward them.
"That recording is illegal!"
The agent calmly restrained him.
Richard smiled.
"No, Nathan."
"You consented."
Nathan's expression froze.
Months earlier, he had signed a security agreement requiring every valuable item entering the estate to be electronically registered.
His own lawyers had written the clause.
The pendant had been legally classified as my personal medical device.
Everything it recorded was admissible.
Nathan finally realized...
The trap had been built using his own rules.
But when the technicians began extracting the pendant's hidden files, one folder appeared that no one had expected.
Its title contained only three words.
Project Lazarus Archive.

Richard's face lost all color.
"I buried this twenty-five years ago..."
