Chapter 1: Sunrise Changed Everything

Chapter 1: Sunrise Changed Everything

At 7:30 a.m., Nathan strode into Sterling Crest Holdings, expecting to chair the quarterly board meeting.

Instead, his executive key card flashed red.

ACCESS DENIED.

He frowned.

"There must be a mistake."

The receptionist looked uncomfortable.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Ashcroft... your credentials were deactivated at 6:02 this morning."

Before Nathan could respond, the boardroom doors opened.

Every director was already seated.

So were a team of corporate attorneys.

At the head of the table sat Victoria.

No evening gown.

No tears.

Only a tailored navy suit and a calm expression.

Nathan laughed.

"So this is your little revenge?"

Victoria slid a folder across the table.

"No."

"It's an audit."

He opened it.

The first page bore the seal of Sterling Global Holdings.

The next page contained a shareholder register.

His smile faded.

Sterling Global owned 62% of Ashcroft Corporation through preferred shares and holding companies established years before Nathan became CEO.

Victoria spoke quietly.

"My grandfather invested when your father was close to bankruptcy."

"The agreement was simple."

"We would remain silent partners."

"So long as the company was managed responsibly."

Nathan stared at the documents.

"Why didn't anyone tell me?"

Victoria held his gaze.

"Because your father knew you'd confuse control with ownership."
