Chapter 3: What Was Truly Lost

Chapter 3: What Was Truly Lost

Within weeks, the board of directors voted to remove Andrew as chief executive.

The frozen accounts became permanent after financial reviews confirmed he had repeatedly treated company assets as personal property without authorization.

The mansion was sold as part of a corporate restructuring.

The luxury cars were returned.

The lavish lifestyle disappeared almost overnight.

Andrew requested one meeting with Mariana.

She agreed.

He entered the conference room looking older than she remembered.

"I loved you," he said quietly.

Mariana looked at him for a long moment.

"No."

"You loved what you believed I depended on."

"When you thought I had nothing..."

"You believed you could treat me like nothing."

He lowered his eyes.

"I made the biggest mistake of my life."

She nodded.

"You did."

"But not when you lost the company."

"You lost everything the moment you chose humiliation over trust."

She stood.

"This meeting is over."

Andrew never asked another question.

He already knew there was no answer that could restore what he had destroyed.
