Chapter 1: The Night She Walked Away

Chapter 1: The Night She Walked Away
The slap echoed through the grand ballroom.
Every conversation died.
Crystal chandeliers reflected the shock on every guest's face.
Sophia Bennett slowly turned her head back toward her husband.
Marcus Bennett.
CEO.
Media darling.
The man who smiled for magazines while destroying people behind closed doors.
Beside him stood his executive assistant, Isabelle, wearing the diamond bracelet Marcus had claimed was "for a client."
Sophia touched the corner of her bleeding lip.
"I suppose," she said quietly, "this is the moment you finally stop pretending."
Marcus laughed.
"You've become an embarrassment."
His mother, Victoria Bennett, folded her arms.
"You should thank my son."
"He gave you a life."
Sophia looked around the room.
Board members.
Investors.
Politicians.
Friends.
No one moved.
No one defended her.
She smiled.
"Enjoy tonight."
Marcus scoffed.
"You'll leave with nothing."
Sophia picked up her handbag.
"No."
She looked directly into his eyes.
May you like
"You will."
She walked out without looking back.
