The chief financial officer called first.
"Mr. Cross... the banks have suspended tomorrow's construction draw."
A second call.
"Our bridge loan has been recalled."

"The bond offering has been postponed indefinitely."
Adrian's confidence unraveled one phone call at a time.
Margaret reached for the back of a chair to steady herself.
"This is temporary."
Victor calmly shook his head.
"No."
He handed one document to Adrian.
"A default notice."
Another.
"Termination of credit facilities."
Then another.
"Personal guarantee enforcement."
Each page carried a different law firm's letterhead.
