Victor walked directly to Elena.

He knelt beside his daughter and gently helped her to her feet.

"You're safe now."

Tears welled in Elena's eyes, but she didn't speak.

She simply rested her father's hand against her stomach.

The baby kicked.

Victor smiled for the first time that night.

Then Elena nodded toward the antique brass clock.

"It's all there."

One of the attorneys retrieved the clock and carefully removed its hidden compartment.

Inside was a tiny recording device.

Hours upon hours of conversations.

Threats.

Plans.

Forged medical reports.

Discussions about declaring Elena mentally unfit.

Margaret's voice was unmistakable.

"Once the baby is born, no one will question where she went."
