The following morning another surprise arrived.
Detective Ryan Foster visited our home.
"We reopened the old hospital investigation."
He placed several DNA reports on the table.
"The original newborn switch has finally been confirmed."
Brandon wasn't the biological son of Robert and Madeline Carter.
But something even stranger appeared.
Luke's DNA matched Brandon perfectly.
There had never been any doubt.
Brandon was Luke's father.
Detective Foster looked directly at Madeline.
"So why did you tell everyone otherwise?"
Tears rolled down her face.
"I was angry."
She finally confessed.
"When I learned Brandon wasn't biologically mine..."
"I couldn't stop seeing another family's child."
"I hated myself for thinking that."
"So I convinced myself his son wasn't ours either."
"I punished an innocent child..."
"...because I never healed from my own pain."
Luke quietly walked toward her.
She immediately began crying harder.
"I'm sorry."
Luke looked at me.
Then back at Madeline.
