CHAPTER 3 – The Son Who Chose the Wrong Side
The reception ended before dinner was served.
Bank representatives called.
Investors suddenly requested emergency meetings.
Noah's phone rang nonstop.
Each call brought worse news than the last.
Sloan finally exploded.
"This is all your mother's fault!"
Laya slowly stood.
"No."
"It's yours."
"You wanted my home before you even became part of this family."
"You measured people by what they owned."
"And you convinced my son to do the same."
Noah stepped toward his mother for the first time that evening.
"Mom... please."
She looked at him with tired eyes.
"When she slapped me..."
"You never stood up."
"When she demanded my apartment..."
"You stayed silent."
"When your silence became permission..."
"You stopped being the son I raised."
Noah dropped to his knees.
"I'm sorry."
Laya closed her eyes.
"I believe you're sorry."
"But being sorry doesn't erase choices."
Raj handed Noah one final document.
"Your mother has transferred all future management of her assets to an independent trust."
"You are no longer authorized to act on her behalf."
Sloan realized the dream she had built her marriage around had disappeared before the honeymoon even began.
She quietly walked out of the ballroom.
