Chapter 3 — The Secret Hidden in the Will

Chapter 3 — The Secret Hidden in the Will
The footage was grainy.
But it was enough.
It showed Eleanor descending the staircase slowly.
Vivian approached from behind.
The two women argued.
There was no audio.
Then...
Vivian reached forward.
Both hands.
One violent shove.
Eleanor stumbled.
Reached for the railing.
Missed.
Then disappeared down the staircase.
Nathaniel closed his eyes.
His wife had lied.
Not just once.
From the very beginning.
Detective Monroe quietly asked,
"Do you know why she would do this?"
Nathaniel didn't answer.
Instead, he remembered something Eleanor had asked him only two days earlier.
"Come to my attorney's office on Friday."
"There's something about the family estate you need to know."
The detectives searched Vivian's bedroom.
Inside a locked drawer they discovered copies of legal documents.
One page immediately caught their attention.
It was Eleanor Ashford's revised will.
Signed only three days earlier.
The changes were dramatic.
Vivian's inheritance had been removed entirely.
Instead, Eleanor planned to establish a trust for Lily's education and donate much of her fortune to children's charities.
A handwritten note rested beside the will.
"Money should never reward greed."
Detective Monroe looked at Nathaniel.

"I think your grandmother told Vivian."
"And Vivian decided she couldn't wait."
