Chapter 2: The Call She Had Been Waiting to Make
The house fell silent.
The blonde woman, Vanessa, continued crying dramatically in the caretaker's embrace.
"She attacked me!" she sobbed.
"I only pushed her away because I was scared."
The elderly caretaker looked down at the pregnant woman lying motionless on the landing.
"Honey... can you hear me?"
The woman slowly opened her eyes.
"My name is Amelia."
Her voice was calm.
"And everything that just happened has been recorded."
Vanessa froze.
"What?"
Amelia held up a tiny wireless microphone clipped inside her sweater.
"For six weeks, Detective Ruiz has been investigating a series of 'accidents' involving wealthy families and disputed inheritances."
She looked directly at Vanessa.
"You've tried to poison my tea."
"You tampered with my car."
"And today..."
"...you finally pushed me."
Vanessa's face turned pale.
"You're insane."
Amelia quietly smiled.
"Maybe."
"But the hidden cameras disagree."
At that exact moment, the front door burst open.
Detective Ruiz entered with several officers.
"No one leaves the house."
Vanessa stepped backward.
"This is a mistake."
Ruiz calmly held up a tablet.
"The staircase cameras captured everything."
"So did the audio recorder Ms. Amelia agreed to wear."
