Chapter 2 – The Lie Inside the Hospital Suite

Chapter 2 – The Lie Inside the Hospital Suite

The hospital hallway had never felt so cold.

Marcus Thorne had walked through thousands of rooms in his life.

Luxury offices.

Private boardrooms.

Five-star hotels.

The homes of powerful people who smiled while negotiating millions of dollars.

But nothing had prepared him for standing outside an emergency room while the woman carrying his child fought for her life.

The red light above the door remained on.

Ten minutes.

Twenty minutes.

Thirty.

Every second felt heavier than the one before.

Marcus stood completely still.

His tuxedo was still the same one he had worn at the charity gala.

The same suit he had worn while accepting congratulations.

The same suit he had worn while smiling for cameras.

But everything had changed.

Because earlier that night, people had congratulated him.

A successful businessman.

A future father.

A man who had everything.

Now he stood alone in a hospital hallway wondering how he had failed to protect the two people who mattered most.

The Woman Waiting Beside Him

Isabella Rossi sat across the hallway.

She looked devastated.

At least, that was what everyone else would have seen.

Her makeup was slightly damaged.

Her hands trembled.

Her voice was soft.

A perfect image of someone who had just experienced a tragedy.

But Marcus noticed something.

Something he had never noticed before.

She was too controlled.

Even in fear, Isabella always looked prepared.

Every tear arrived at the right moment.

Every sentence sounded carefully chosen.

"Marcus."

He did not answer.

She looked up.

"I know you're angry."

Still nothing.

"I know this looks bad."

Marcus finally looked at her.

"Looks bad?"

His voice was quiet.

Too quiet.

Isabella swallowed.

"I didn't mean for any of this to happen."

Marcus stared at her.

"Then tell me what happened."

The question she wanted.

The question she had prepared for.

Isabella immediately lowered her eyes.

"Khloe confronted me."

Marcus frowned.

"About what?"

"About us."

The answer came quickly.

Too quickly.

"She accused me of trying to destroy your marriage."

Marcus said nothing.

"She became emotional."

Isabella’s voice shook.

"She pushed me."

A long silence followed.

Marcus looked toward the emergency room door.

Then back at Isabella.

"Khloe pushed you?"

"Yes."

"While she was seven months pregnant?"

Isabella hesitated.

Only for a second.

But Marcus saw it.

"I didn't say she knew what she was doing."

The explanation sounded weak even to her.

Marcus looked away.

For years, Isabella had been someone he trusted.

A family friend.

A person who had always been there during difficult moments.

But tonight...

Something felt wrong.

The First Crack in the Story

A hospital security officer approached.

"Mr. Thorne?"

Marcus turned.

"Yes."

The officer held a tablet.

"I need your signature regarding access to the security footage."

Isabella immediately stood.

"Security footage?"

The officer looked at her.

"Yes."

Her expression changed.

Only slightly.

But Marcus noticed.

"What footage?"

The officer answered calmly.

"The camera outside the private suite captured the hallway entrance. The camera inside the suite captured the entire room."

Silence.

Isabella stopped breathing for a moment.

"Inside?"

The officer nodded.

"Yes."

Marcus watched her face.

And for the first time...

He saw fear.

Real fear.

Not sadness.

Not shock.

Fear.

The Video

The hospital administrator arrived several minutes later.

His name was Daniel Carter.

He was older, calm, and carried himself with the confidence of someone who had spent his life solving impossible problems.

"Mr. Thorne."

Marcus shook his hand.

"What happened?"

Daniel looked serious.

"We reviewed the footage."

Marcus waited.

"The incident was not what Ms. Rossi reported."

Isabella immediately interrupted.

"That's unfair."

Everyone turned toward her.

She forced a nervous laugh.

"You haven't even explained what you saw."

Daniel looked at her.

"No."

His voice remained calm.

"But we have."

The hallway became silent.

"Mr. Thorne, the footage shows Ms. Rossi entering the suite."

Pause.

"Ms. Thorne did not approach her."

Another pause.

"Ms. Rossi initiated physical contact."

Marcus felt his stomach tighten.

Daniel continued.

"The recording shows Ms. Rossi pushing your wife into the marble table."

Isabella shook her head.

"No."

Her voice became louder.

"No, that's not what happened."

But nobody was listening anymore.

Because the truth had already entered the room.

Marcus Watches the Truth

The security office was small.

Too small for the weight of what Marcus was about to see.

Daniel placed the footage on the screen.

"Are you sure you want to view this?"

Marcus did not answer.

He only nodded.

The video began.

There was Khloe.

Standing alone.

Tired.

Pregnant.

Then Isabella entered.

At first, everything looked normal.

Two women talking.

No violence.

No obvious danger.

Marcus almost convinced himself that maybe Isabella was right.

Maybe there had been a misunderstanding.

Then the conversation changed.

The audio became clear.

"You were supposed to stay quiet."

Marcus froze.

Isabella’s voice.

"Smile for the cameras."

His jaw tightened.

"Give him an heir."

His eyes moved to the screen.

"And then disappear."

The room felt smaller.

Then he saw it.

The push.

The fall.

The glass breaking.

Khloe protecting her stomach.

And then...

The kick.

Marcus stopped breathing.

For a moment, he was no longer a billionaire.

No longer a businessman.

No longer the head of the Thorne family.

He was just a husband watching another person hurt the woman he loved.

His hands tightened into fists.

"Turn it off."

Daniel looked at him.

"Mr. Thorne..."

"Turn it off."

The video stopped.

Silence filled the room.

The Woman He Didn't Recognize

When Marcus returned to the hallway, Isabella stood immediately.

"Marcus, please let me explain."

He looked at her.

Really looked at her.

And for the first time, he wondered how many things he had ignored.

How many warnings he had dismissed.

How many times Khloe had tried to tell him something was wrong.

"I saw the video."

The color disappeared from Isabella’s face.

"Marcus..."

"I saw everything."

She stepped closer.

"I can explain."

"No."

His voice stopped her.

"There is nothing you can explain."

Tears appeared in her eyes.

"After everything I've done for you?"

Marcus almost laughed.

Not because it was funny.

Because it was unbelievable.

"You think this is about you?"

Isabella stared.

"This is about my wife."

Then his voice broke slightly.

"My child."

For the first time, Isabella realized something.

The story she had created was collapsing.

Not because of the camera.

Not because of the hospital.

Because Marcus no longer believed her.

The Man Who Arrived

The elevator doors opened.

Everyone turned.

A tall man in a dark coat stepped out.

His expression was calm.

Too calm.

He looked directly at Marcus.

"Where is Khloe?"

Marcus studied him.

"Who are you?"

The man walked closer.

"Daniel Carter."

A pause.

"Her uncle."

Marcus froze.

Because he remembered the name.

Everyone in business knew Daniel Carter.

A former attorney.

A man famous for destroying companies that tried to manipulate the law.

And now he stood in the hospital hallway protecting Khloe.

Daniel looked at Isabella.

His expression changed.

Cold.

"You made a very serious mistake."

Isabella said nothing.

Daniel turned back to Marcus.

"My niece has spent her entire life protecting people."

His voice lowered.

"Tonight, someone tried to hurt her because they believed she had no one."

He looked toward the emergency room.

"They were wrong."

The doors opened.

A doctor stepped out.

Everyone moved.

Marcus rushed forward.

"Doctor?"

The doctor removed his mask.

"Your wife is stable."

Marcus closed his eyes in relief.

"But we need to monitor the baby closely."

His heart dropped.

"Is my child okay?"

The doctor nodded carefully.

"For now."

Those two words were enough to break him.

For now.

Marcus looked through the glass window toward the room where Khloe rested.

Then he looked back at Isabella.

The woman who had smiled beside him.

The woman who had almost destroyed his family.

And he finally understood.

Tonight was not the end of an argument.

It was the beginning of a war.

Because Isabella Rossi had believed one thing:

That Khloe Thorne was alone.

But she had forgotten something.

A person who is loved is never powerless.

And Khloe was about to show everyone exactly how dangerous the truth could become.
