Chapter 3: The Truth Inside the Cameras

Chapter 3: The Truth Inside the Cameras
Daniel helped his mother onto a chair.
Then he walked into the living room without saying another word.
Claire followed nervously.
"Daniel..."
"I can explain."
He ignored her.
Instead, he opened the security system on his phone.
Months before deploying, he had installed cameras throughout the house after a series of neighborhood break-ins.
His mother never objected.
Claire had forgotten they existed.
The footage began playing on the television.
There she was.
Shouting.
Calling his mother useless.
Demanding she sign paperwork transferring ownership of the house.
When his mother refused...
Claire slapped her.
Hard.
Then she filled a cleaning bucket with dirty mop water.
"Drink it."
"Your son signed everything over before he deployed."
His mother cried.
Claire laughed.
Then she shoved her onto the floor.
The room fell silent.
Daniel stopped the recording.
He looked at Claire.
"I signed nothing."
Claire's face turned white.
"You..."
"You watched everything?"
"No."
May you like
"I just came home."
"But the cameras did."
