Chapter 1: The Ring That Changed Everything

The hallway fell into complete silence.

The mother-in-law, Victoria Ashford, stared at the ring in the bride's hand, then burst into laughter.

"What a ridiculous bluff."

Several wedding guests exchanged awkward glances.

"You?" Victoria scoffed. "Buy Ashford Holdings? Do you even know what our company is worth?"

The bride smiled softly.

"My family does."

Before Victoria could respond, hurried footsteps echoed through the mansion.

Richard Ashford, chairman of Ashford Holdings and father of the groom, rushed down the corridor with his phone pressed against his ear. His face had turned ghostly pale.

"No... there has to be some mistake."

He ended the call and looked directly at the bride.

"...Sophia?"

Victoria frowned.

"Richard, tell her to stop embarrassing herself."

Instead, Richard asked in a trembling voice,

"Was it... the Harrington Group?"

Sophia nodded.

"This morning."

Richard staggered backward.

Minutes earlier, the board of directors had approved an emergency acquisition.

Every major shareholder had accepted the Harrington family's offer.

Ashford Holdings no longer belonged to the Ashford family.

It belonged to Harrington Global Investments.

And Sophia Harrington was the controlling heir.

Victoria's confident smile disappeared.

"No..."

Sophia calmly slipped off her engagement ring and placed it in the groom's hand.

"I wasn't marrying into your family because I needed your name."

She looked directly into Victoria's eyes.

"I was marrying because I loved your son."

A painful silence filled the hallway.

"But love cannot survive where respect never existed."
