Chapter 9 – The Stolen Evidence

Chapter 9 – The Stolen Evidence

The truth had always been Marcus Thorne’s greatest weapon.

Evidence.

Facts.

Records.

Documents.

He had built his empire on one simple principle:

The person who controls the information controls the outcome.

But now, for the first time in his life...

Someone had taken that weapon away from him.

The Missing File

The morning after Marcus discovered the hidden agreement signed by his father, the Thorne mansion was unusually quiet.

Too quiet.

Marcus sat in his private office.

The old document was supposed to be there.

The agreement.

The financial records.

The evidence connecting his father’s past decisions to the current betrayal.

Everything was locked inside a private security cabinet.

A cabinet only three people had access to.

Marcus.

Adrian.

His security director.

But when Marcus entered the office that morning...

The cabinet was open.

And the file was gone.

For several seconds, Marcus did not move.

Not because he was surprised.

Because he was calculating.

Someone had entered his office.

Someone had bypassed his security.

Someone knew exactly what they were looking for.

Adrian arrived minutes later.

He looked at the empty cabinet.

Then at Marcus.

"How?"

Marcus's expression was cold.

"Someone knew where it was."

The security director checked the logs.

His face became pale.

"Mr. Thorne..."

Marcus looked at him.

"What?"

"There is no record of anyone entering."

Silence.

Adrian frowned.

"Impossible."

The director shook his head.

"The system wasn't hacked."

"The door wasn't forced."

"The alarm wasn't triggered."

Marcus slowly understood.

Someone had not broken into his office.

Someone had been allowed inside.

The Person With Access

The list was short.

Marcus.

Adrian.

And one other person.

The name appeared on the screen.

Alexander Vale.

Nobody spoke.

Because even after everything...

Seeing his name still hurt.

"He knew about the file."

Adrian said.

Marcus stared at the screen.

"He knew about everything."

The betrayal was no longer a possibility.

It was reality.

Alexander's Escape

But Alexander was already gone.

His office at Thorne Corporation was empty.

His phone was disconnected.

His apartment had been abandoned.

He had disappeared perfectly.

Just like he planned.

Marcus stood inside Alexander's office.

A place where they had spent hundreds of hours discussing the future of the company.

Now it felt like the room belonged to a stranger.

On the desk was one thing.

A photograph.

Marcus and Alexander together twelve years earlier.

Both younger.

Both believing they were building something.

Marcus picked it up.

For a moment, he remembered.

The late nights.

The victories.

The trust.

Then he turned the photo over.

There was writing on the back.

One sentence.

"You trusted the wrong person."

Marcus's expression hardened.

Because he realized something.

Alexander had not left in fear.

He wanted to be found.

Isabella's Panic

For the first time in weeks, Isabella was afraid.

She sat in her apartment watching the news.

Reports about Alexander's disappearance filled every channel.

"Former Thorne advisor Alexander Vale has vanished following allegations of corporate betrayal..."

The glass in Isabella's hand shook.

Because she finally understood.

The game had changed.

She called him.

No answer.

Again.

Nothing.

"You promised me."

She whispered.

She had believed Alexander would give her Marcus.

She had believed she would become part of the Thorne family.

She had believed she was the one controlling everything.

But now...

She had no Marcus.

No reputation.

No protection.

And the only person who knew the entire plan had disappeared.

The Second Recording

That evening, Marcus received an unexpected package.

No address.

No sender.

Inside was a small memory drive.

Adrian immediately warned him.

"Don't open it."

Marcus looked at him.

"Why?"

"Because whoever sent this wants a reaction."

Marcus stared at the device.

He knew Adrian was right.

But he also knew something else.

Sometimes the truth was dangerous.

But ignorance was worse.

They connected the drive to an isolated computer.

A video appeared.

The image was dark.

The sound was unclear.

Then a familiar voice appeared.

Alexander.

"If you're watching this, Marcus..."

A pause.

"You finally know."

Marcus's jaw tightened.

Alexander continued.

"I know you think I betrayed you."

"You think this is about money."

"It's not."

The video showed old documents.

Old photographs.

Records from twenty years ago.

Then Alexander said something that changed everything.

"Your father didn't destroy my family."

Marcus froze.

"He destroyed someone else's."

Adrian looked at Marcus.

Confusion crossed his face.

"What is he talking about?"

Marcus didn't answer.

Because the video continued.

"Your father spent years making sure the truth never came out."

"And you inherited the empire built on that lie."

The screen went black.

The New Threat

Marcus immediately tried to access the files.

But the drive had already erased itself.

Someone had designed it that way.

A message appeared.

Only one sentence.

"The truth cannot be destroyed, Marcus. Only delayed."

Adrian looked at him.

"This is bigger than Alexander."

Marcus nodded.

Because he finally understood.

Alexander was not trying to destroy him randomly.

He was forcing him to uncover something.

Something buried by his father.

Khloe Finds the Missing Piece

That night, Khloe found Marcus in the library.

Surrounded by old documents.

She had never seen him look so lost.

"Marcus."

He looked up.

"I thought I knew my family."

Khloe walked closer.

"Maybe you knew the family they wanted you to see."

The words stayed with him.

Because they were true.

Khloe picked up one of the old documents.

"This name..."

Marcus looked at her.

"What?"

She pointed.

"I've seen this before."

Marcus immediately stood.

"Where?"

Khloe searched her memory.

"Years ago."

A pause.

"In my mother's old things."

Marcus froze.

"Your mother?"

Khloe nodded.

"She kept records of important people."

A new possibility appeared.

Khloe's family might have known the truth.

The Evidence That Wasn't Gone

Later that night, Adrian received a message.

From an unknown number.

Only four words.

"The evidence was never stolen."

He stared at the message.

Then another line appeared.

"It was moved."

Adrian immediately showed Marcus.

They both understood.

Alexander had not taken the evidence to destroy it.

He had taken it to hide it.

To protect it.

But from whom?

Marcus looked toward the dark window.

The city lights reflected across his face.

The enemy was still out there.

But now he knew something important.

Alexander Vale was not the end of the mystery.

He was only a messenger.

And somewhere in the shadows...

Someone else was watching.

Someone who knew the truth about Marcus's father.

Someone who knew why Khloe's family was connected.

Someone who was willing to destroy an entire empire to keep a secret buried.

May you like

The evidence had disappeared.

But the truth had only just begun to surface.
