CHAPTER 3 – The Truth Behind the Test

CHAPTER 3 – The Truth Behind the Test
An elderly gentleman entered the restaurant moments later.
Everyone recognized him.
Charles Hayes.
Founder of Hayes Global Holdings.
He walked directly to Ethan.
"You handled that better than I would have."
Olivia's knees nearly gave out.
"You..."
"You're his grandfather?"
Charles nodded.
"My grandson asked me for one favor."
"He wanted to know whether the woman he planned to marry loved him..."
"...or his money."
Olivia's face turned pale.
"You tested me?"
Ethan answered quietly.
"No."
"You tested yourself."
Charles continued,
"Ethan has spent the last two years managing our community investment foundation."
"He deliberately chose not to use the family fortune."
"He wanted to build relationships honestly."
Olivia remembered every complaint she had ever made.
His modest apartment.
His old pickup truck.
The inexpensive ring.
She had mistaken simplicity for failure.
Mark stepped backward.
"I think I should leave."
Charles smiled.
"That would be wise."
Because just moments earlier...
Mark had proudly mocked Ethan for being "poor."
Several business leaders at nearby tables had heard every word.
Now they looked at Mark with obvious disappointment.
His biggest client quietly stood.
"I don't do business with people who measure character by bank accounts."
Within minutes...

Mark lost three contracts.
Olivia lost something far greater.
