Chapter 1: The Witness No One Expected

The mansion fell into absolute silence.

Six-year-old Lily stood at the bottom of the staircase, clutching her stuffed rabbit with trembling hands.

Tiny tears rolled down her cheeks.

"She pushed Grandma."

No one breathed.

Ethan turned slowly toward his wife.

Vivian's face had lost all color.

"Lily..."

She forced a smile.

"Sweetheart, you're confused."

But Lily shook her head.

"I saw you."

"You were angry."

"You pushed Grandma."

The paramedics continued working desperately on the elderly woman, Eleanor Whitmore, while detectives arriving at the scene exchanged uneasy glances.

One officer gently knelt before Lily.

"Can you tell me exactly what you saw?"

Lily pointed toward the staircase.

"Grandma said she wasn't changing her will."

"Then Vivian yelled."

"Grandma tried to walk away."

"And Vivian pushed her."

The foyer echoed with whispers.

Vivian suddenly laughed nervously.

"She's only a child."

"Children imagine things."

Before anyone could respond, the lead detective looked up toward the second floor.

"Search the hallway."

Minutes later, an officer returned carrying a broken bracelet.

A single emerald stone was missing.

The detective glanced at Vivian's wrist.

She was wearing the matching bracelet.

One stone was gone.
