Chapter 13: The Family Divided by Blood

THE BIRTHMARK THAT BROKE THE FAMILY

Chapter 13: The Family Divided by Blood

The Hamilton family had survived wars.

Economic collapses.

Scandals.

Betrayals.

But nothing had ever threatened to destroy them like the truth.

Because the truth did not come from an enemy.

It came from inside the family.

Three children.

Three identities.

Three lives changed by decisions made before they could even speak.

And now those three lives stood together in the same room.

Clara.

Daniel.

Elias.

The three people who represented everything the Hamilton family had tried to control.

The Return of Elias

The meeting happened at the old Hamilton estate.

Not the mansion.

Not the company headquarters.

The place where the family history began.

Elias arrived without warning.

As always.

He stood in the doorway wearing a dark coat.

His expression unreadable.

Clara looked at him carefully.

For weeks, she had imagined this moment.

She imagined anger.

She imagined confrontation.

She imagined a man who wanted revenge.

But what she saw surprised her.

Pain.

Not hatred.

Pain.

"You came."

Clara said.

Elias looked at her.

"You found the truth."

A pause.

"Finally."

Daniel stepped forward.

"Why were you at our wedding?"

Elias looked at him.

"Because I wanted to see the two people who received the lives I lost."

The words hurt.

Because nobody could deny them.

Daniel looked away.

The Three Children

Elias sat across from them.

For the first time, the three descendants of the Hamilton legacy spoke openly.

"I spent my entire life knowing I was unwanted."

Elias said.

"My mother told me nothing about my father."

"She only told me one thing."

Clara listened.

"What?"

"That the Hamilton family took everything from us."

Elias grew up poor.

He watched the Hamilton empire from a distance.

He saw Daniel in newspapers.

The perfect son.

The future heir.

And every photograph reminded him of what he believed had been stolen.

"My entire identity was built around anger."

Daniel looked at him.

"I didn't know."

Elias laughed quietly.

"Nobody ever knows."

Daniel's Pain

Daniel looked down.

"You think I had everything."

Elias stared.

"Didn't you?"

Daniel shook his head.

"I had a house."

"Money."

"Education."

"But I never had a choice."

The room became silent.

"I spent my whole life trying to become someone my father would be proud of."

A pause.

"And now I know that person never existed."

Elias looked surprised.

For the first time, he saw Daniel differently.

Not as the brother who stole his life.

But as another victim.

Clara's Burden

Then both men looked at Clara.

She smiled sadly.

"Don't look at me like I won."

They became quiet.

"I lost everything too."

She touched her birthmark.

"I lost my mother."

"I lost my childhood."

"I lost the person I was before all of this."

A tear fell.

"And everyone keeps telling me I am lucky."

Nobody spoke.

Because they understood.

A golden cage was still a cage.

The Family That Never Loved Correctly

Alexander arrived later that evening.

He listened quietly.

Then he said something nobody expected.

"The problem was never the children."

Everyone looked at him.

"The problem was the adults who believed children existed to continue a legacy."

Victoria lowered her eyes.

Because she knew.

She had loved Daniel.

But she had also allowed the Hamilton name to matter too much.

Victor Hale's Shadow

Their conversation was interrupted by a message.

A video.

From Victor Hale.

Everyone froze.

His face appeared on the screen.

Older.

Calm.

Confident.

"Congratulations."

His voice carried through the room.

"You finally discovered the family history."

Daniel clenched his fists.

"Victor."

The man smiled.

"I know you are angry."

A pause.

"But anger is what destroyed the Hamilton family in the first place."

Clara stepped closer.

"What do you want?"

Victor looked directly at her.

"The same thing your grandfather wanted."

"Order."

Victor's Truth

Victor revealed something shocking.

He had not spent thirty years hiding the truth.

He had spent thirty years waiting.

Waiting for the perfect moment.

"The Hamilton family was always unstable."

"Too many heirs."

"Too many emotions."

"Too many weaknesses."

He smiled.

"I simply removed the weaknesses."

Elias became angry.

"You destroyed people's lives."

Victor looked at him.

"No."

"I created opportunities."

The cruelty of the statement made everyone silent.

The Offer

Victor continued.

"Clara."

Everyone looked at her.

"You are the rightful heir."

"Take control."

"Remove the people who betrayed you."

Clara remembered Alexander saying almost the same thing.

Power.

Control.

Revenge.

The Hamilton curse.

Victor smiled.

"You have more in common with me than you realize."

Clara's expression hardened.

"No."

A pause.

"I am nothing like you."

The Division

After the video ended, nobody spoke.

Because Victor had created exactly what he wanted.

Doubt.

The family looked at each other.

Could they trust one another?

Could Clara forgive Victoria?

Could Daniel accept losing the future he was raised for?

Could Elias stop blaming people who were never responsible?

The family was divided.

Not by enemies.

By blood.

That night, Elias found Clara alone.

"You hate me."

Clara looked surprised.

"No."

"You should."

She shook her head.

"I know what it feels like to lose your identity."

Elias looked at her.

"And what do you know about losing everything?"

Clara smiled sadly.

"Everything."

For a moment, neither spoke.

Two people who should have been enemies.

Two people connected by the same wound.

Before leaving, Elias stopped.

"There is something you should know."

Clara looked at him.

"What?"

"I found something about Victor."

"What?"

Elias handed her an old photograph.

A photograph of Victor Hale standing beside Robert Hamilton.

But behind them was another person.

A woman.

Clara recognized her immediately.

Margaret Hamilton.

But the date on the photograph made no sense.

It was taken...

Five years after Margaret supposedly disappeared.

Clara looked at Elias.

"She was working with him."

Elias nodded.

"Yes."

The truth had changed again.

The woman everyone hated...

May not have been telling them everything.
