Chapter 4 – The FiancĂ©e Who Wanted the Crown

Chapter 4 – The FiancĂ©e Who Wanted the Crown

Part 1

The Villaseñor mansion had a new sound.

Laughter.

Not the polite laughter of wealthy guests at charity dinners.

Not the carefully controlled laughter of executives trying to impress their billionaire employer.

Not the fake smiles exchanged between people who calculated every word before speaking.

Real laughter.

Small.

Soft.

Unexpected.

It came from the garden.

And every servant in the mansion noticed.

Because for years, Diego Villaseñor had been known as a man who built impossible things.

Skyscrapers.

Hotels.

Businesses.

A financial empire that stretched across countries.

But nobody had ever seen him build something more important.

A relationship with his daughter.

Valentina ran through the grass holding a small yellow flower.

Her little shoes were covered in dirt.

Her hair was messy.

Her dress was no longer perfectly clean.

And Diego loved every second of it.

“Papa!”

She turned around excitedly.

“Look!”

Diego, who once had assistants reminding him every minute of his schedule, stopped everything.

He crouched down.

“What did you find?”

“A flower.”

He smiled.

“That is a very important flower.”

Valentina nodded seriously.

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because I picked it for you.”

The answer was simple.

But it meant more than any expensive gift he had ever received.

Behind the window of the mansion

Paulina watched.

And every second she watched them together, something inside her became colder.

Because she finally understood.

The problem was not only Valentina.

The problem was that Diego had changed.

Before the child appeared, Paulina controlled his attention.

She knew how to influence him.

She knew which words to use.

Which emotions to display.

Which weaknesses to touch.

But now

Diego had something stronger than ambition.

He had love.

And love was something Paulina could not manipulate.

The Woman Who Wanted Everything

Paulina Robles had never considered herself a bad person.

That was what made her dangerous.

People who believed they were cruel were easy to predict.

But people who justified cruelty?

Those were different.

Paulina always had a reason.

She wanted security.

She wanted respect.

She wanted a place among the powerful.

And she believed she deserved it.

She grew up watching powerful families open doors for their own.

She watched people with famous last names receive opportunities she had to fight for.

So she made a decision when she was young.

She would never be ignored.

She would become someone people had to notice.

And Diego Villaseñor was the perfect answer.

The billionaire.

The heir.

The man whose wife would become one of the most influential women in the country.

She did not simply want Diego.

She wanted the crown that came with him.

That evening, Paulina sat across from her mother in a private restaurant.

Her mother, Elena Robles, looked at her carefully.

“You look worried.”

Paulina remained silent.

“Is it the child?”

Paulina looked up.

“You knew?”

Elena sighed.

“Everyone knows now.”

Paulina tightened her fingers around her glass.

“I had everything.”

Her mother did not respond.

“I was six months away from becoming the wife of Diego Villaseñor.”

A pause.

“Do you understand what that meant?”

Elena looked at her daughter.

“It meant you were going to marry a man.”

Paulina’s eyes hardened.

“No.”

“It meant I was going to become someone.”

The answer revealed everything.

Elena studied her.

“Paulina
”

But her daughter interrupted.

“I spent my whole life watching people like the Villaseñors decide who mattered.”

She leaned forward.

“I finally reached their world.”

“And now?”

Paulina looked out the window.

“Now a maid’s daughter is standing between me and everything.”

Diego Begins to Investigate

Meanwhile, Diego had not forgotten.

The missing messages.

The blocked calls.

The years stolen from him.

He sat in his office with his security chief, Mateo.

“I want everything.”

Mateo looked up.

“Everything?”

“Every communication from three years ago.”

“You think someone interfered?”

Diego stared at the city.

“I know someone did.”

Mateo hesitated.

“Do you suspect Paulina?”

Silence.

That was the answer.

But Diego did not want to believe it.

Because believing it meant admitting something painful.

He had trusted the wrong person.

“Find Adrian Morales.”

Mateo nodded.

“And Diego?”

He looked back.

“Yes?”

“If Adrian was involved
”

Mateo paused.

“Are you prepared for what that means?”

Diego understood.

It meant betrayal from someone close.

It meant the possibility that his entire relationship with Paulina was built on deception.

“It means I need the truth.”

The First Attack Against Marisol

The next morning, the media received an anonymous package.

Inside:

Photos.

Documents.

Old information about Marisol.

Nothing illegal.

Nothing criminal.

But enough to create suspicion.

The headlines appeared within hours.

“Villaseñor Heir’s Mother Was Former Employee.”

“Did Marisol Herrera Hide Billionaire’s Daughter for Personal Gain?”

“Questions Surround Woman Behind Villaseñor Family Drama.”

Marisol saw the articles while preparing breakfast.

Her hands froze.

Because she knew.

This was not an accident.

Someone wanted the world to see her as a villain.

When Diego entered the kitchen, he immediately noticed.

“What happened?”

Marisol quickly turned off the phone.

“Nothing.”

Diego looked at her.

“Marisol.”

She looked away.

He walked closer.

“You don’t have to protect me anymore.”

Her eyes filled with emotion.

“That is what I do.”

“No.”

His voice softened.

“That is what you did.”

A pause.

“But you don’t have to do it alone now.”

Those words almost broke her.

Because for three years

She carried everything alone.

The pregnancy.

The fear.

The judgment.

The child.

Everything.

And now the man she thought abandoned her was standing in front of her, asking her to let him help.

Paulina’s Final Move

That night, Paulina returned to the mansion.

She found Diego in the study.

“We need to talk.”

He did not look surprised.

“About what?”

She walked closer.

“About your future.”

Diego remained silent.

“You are making emotional decisions.”

“My daughter is not an emotional decision.”

Paulina flinched.

“My point is that you are risking everything.”

“No.”

He looked at her.

“I spent years building everything except the one thing that mattered.”

A pause.

“My family.”

Paulina felt something break.

Because she realized something.

She was losing him.

Not because of Marisol.

Not because of Valentina.

Because Diego had finally become the man she pretended to love.

A man with priorities beyond power.

“You love her.”

The words escaped before she could stop them.

Diego said nothing.

But silence answered.

Paulina laughed softly.

A bitter laugh.

“After all these years
”

She looked toward the hallway where Valentina’s drawings hung.

“You chose them.”

Diego corrected her.

“No.”

He looked directly at her.

“I chose myself.”

That sentence destroyed her.

Because Paulina finally understood.

She had never lost to a maid.

She had lost to a truth.

Later that night, Paulina opened the hidden file she had kept.

Inside was a photograph.

A photograph of Marisol.

But not as a maid.

A photograph from years earlier.

A photograph that showed Marisol standing beside a powerful man.

A man whose identity could change everything.

Paulina smiled.

Because she finally had a new weapon.

“If I cannot take the crown
”

She whispered.

May you like

“I will burn the kingdom.”
