Part 3: The Truth Behind the Engagement
Vanessa's confidence disappeared.
"Ethan..."
She reached for his arm.
"You can't believe this."
He quietly stepped away.
"I have one question."
His voice was calm.
"When did you know Clara was alive?"
Vanessa said nothing.
His security director entered the ballroom carrying a tablet.
"Sir."
"You asked us to review all archived records after your son's statement."
The screen displayed security footage from six months earlier.
Vanessa stood in the mansion's service hallway speaking to Lauren.
No audio.
Just images.
Lauren looked confused.
Vanessa handed her an employment contract.
Then pointed toward the staff quarters.
Another video appeared.
Vanessa removing every newspaper that mentioned Clara's disappearance before Lauren moved into the estate.
Another.
Intercepting letters.
Refusing phone calls from investigators who were still searching for possible survivors.
The room erupted.
Vanessa had recognized Clara from the very beginning.
She hadn't helped her.
She had hidden her.
As long as Clara believed she was only a housekeeper...
Vanessa remained free to become Ethan's future wife.
Ethan's face hardened.
"You stole two years from my family."
Vanessa whispered desperately,
"I loved you."
"No."
He answered quietly.
"You loved what belonged to someone else."
Security escorted Vanessa from the mansion while guests watched in stunned silence.
