Chapter 1: The Boardroom Reckoning

Chapter 1: The Boardroom Reckoning

The convoy carried me straight to headquarters.

Not to celebrate.

To work.

When the elevator doors opened, every board member was already seated around the long walnut table.

My assistant closed the doors behind me.

"The meeting is in session, Ms. Isabella."

I nodded.

"Let's begin."

On the large screen, the company's ownership structure appeared.

The numbers left no room for debate.

My family's investment firm held the controlling interest.

Every share had been acquired legally over the past four years.

Every document had been audited.

Every vote had already been secured.

The lead attorney stood.

"Item one: removal of Lucas Bennett as Chief Executive Officer."

The vote was unanimous.

"Item two: removal of Richard Bennett as Chairman."

Again...

Unanimous.

No raised voices.

No revenge.

Just signatures.

Professional.

Final.

Meanwhile, across town, Lucas burst into his executive office.

His access card flashed red.

ACCESS DENIED

"What is this?" he shouted.

The head of security approached respectfully.

"I'm sorry, sir."

"Board orders."

"You no longer have authorization to enter."

Lucas stared through the glass walls at the office he once called his own.

Inside, employees quietly packed his personal belongings into cardboard boxes.

No one looked pleased.

No one looked sad.

They simply continued working.

For the first time in his life, Lucas realized that titles can disappear overnight.

Respect cannot.
