CHAPTER 4 – Karma Arrives Wearing a Tuxedo

The attorney placed one final document on the reception table.

"The original inheritance."

"The DNA records."

"The handwritten letters."

"They were all recovered from a private bank vault."

Every guest understood at once.

Maria had never been "just the maid."

She had been the woman Richard Ashford had secretly loved after becoming a widower.

Gabriel wasn't an intruder.

He was family.

The only person who had been treated like a servant was the rightful heir no one wanted to acknowledge.

Victoria looked around desperately.

No one defended her.

The whispers spread across the ballroom.

"She knew."

"She hid everything."

"She humiliated that poor woman for years."

The groom quietly removed his wedding ring.

"When I asked what kind of person you were..."

"You said your staff adored you."

He placed the ring on the table.

"I've just met the only honest person in this room."

He walked away.

One by one...

The guests followed.

Within minutes, the lavish ballroom stood nearly empty.

Only Victoria remained, surrounded by flowers, crystal glasses, and the silence she had spent years creating for someone else.

Gabriel offered his arm to Maria.

"Let's go home."

She smiled through her tears.

"I never needed revenge."

Gabriel nodded.

"No."

"You only needed the truth."

As mother and son walked out together beneath the evening sky, the mansion behind them seemed smaller than it ever had before.

Because wealth can buy a wedding.

Status can command servants.

May you like

But neither can bury the truth forever.

The End.
