Chapter 3 – The Secret Behind the Poison

Hours later, forensic testing confirmed everyone's worst fear.

The orange juice contained a fast-acting toxic substance capable of causing fatal cardiac arrest if consumed in sufficient quantity.

The ballroom became an active crime scene.

Detectives questioned every guest.

When investigators searched Victoria's handbag, they found an identical silver capsule.

She finally broke.

"It wasn't supposed to happen this way."

Detective Laura Grant frowned.

"Then tell us what was supposed to happen."

Victoria lowered her head.

"Ethan planned to remove me from the Sinclair Foundation."

"I had secretly diverted millions of dollars from charity accounts."

"If he discovered the missing money..."

"I would lose everything."

"So you decided to kill him?"

Tears rolled down her face.

"I panicked."

Across the room, Ethan remained silent.

He had trusted Victoria for years.

She had attended family holidays.

Shared business meetings.

Smiled for countless charity photographs.

None of it had been real.

Anna watched quietly from the doorway.

She still couldn't believe that one desperate decision had exposed a crime far larger than anyone imagined.

The detective approached her.

"You saved his life tonight."

Anna looked embarrassed.

"I only did what anyone should."

The detective smiled gently.

"Not everyone would have risked losing their job to protect a stranger."

Anna looked at Ethan.

"He wasn't a stranger."

"He was someone's son."

Someone's brother.

May you like

Someone's friend.

That was enough.
