The engagement was over before sunrise.
Victoria's belongings were packed and removed from the estate.
The legal process that followed addressed the events captured on the security footage, including the alleged assault on Beatrice and the actions that endangered Lily.
Leo focused on one thing.
His daughter.
When Lily returned home from the hospital several days later, she walked slowly into the kitchen.
Beatrice stood at the counter preparing hot chocolate.
The little girl smiled.
"Bee?"
Beatrice knelt carefully despite the soreness in her ribs.
"Welcome home, sweetheart."
Lily wrapped her small arms around her.
"I knew you'd come."
Beatrice hugged her gently.
"I'll always come if you need me."
Leo watched quietly from the doorway.
After Lily went upstairs for a nap, he approached Beatrice.
"I owe you more than I can ever repay."
She smiled faintly.
"You don't owe me anything."
"I loved her long before tonight."
