Chapter 2 — The Man Who Never Knelt

Chapter 2 — The Man Who Never Knelt
The boutique fell silent.
Every customer stopped moving.
The billionaire held the little girl close, gently brushing tears from her cheeks.
"It's okay, sweetheart."
"Papa's here."
She buried her face in his shoulder.
"I got scared..."
"I know."
"You don't have to be scared anymore."
Only then did he slowly stand.
He turned toward the young employee who had covered his daughter with her coat.
"Was it you?"
She nodded nervously.
"She was crying and seemed overwhelmed... I just wanted to help."
He smiled.
"The coat you're wearing..."
She looked down.
It was hers.
"I didn't want her lying on the cold floor."
The billionaire extended his hand.
"Thank you."
She shook it, still confused.
Then he turned toward the manager.
"What happened?"
The manager forced a smile.
"Sir, it's all a misunderstanding."
"The employee ignored store policy."
"We simply maintain standards."
The little girl immediately shook her head.
"No!"
"She saved me!"
Everyone looked at her.
The child took a deep breath.
"I couldn't find Papa."
"I got dizzy."
"The lights were hurting my eyes."
"She sat with me."
"She gave me water."
"She told me to breathe."
Tears filled her eyes again.
"But that lady..."
She pointed directly at the manager.
"...said I was making rich people uncomfortable."
The manager's face turned white.
The billionaire's expression didn't change.
Somehow...
That was even more frightening.
He looked at the security guards.
"Did you see what happened?"
Neither answered immediately.
Finally, one nodded.
"Yes, sir."
"The employee never caused any trouble."
"The manager ordered us to remove the child."
"And then fired the employee."
Silence.
Heavy.
Unforgiving.
The billionaire reached into his pocket.
He handed the employee a business card.
"My name is Adrian Kingston."
She looked at the card.
Then at him.
Her eyes widened.
Everyone knew the name.
Kingston Group.
Hotels.
Airlines.
Luxury brands.
Half the building they were standing in belonged to him.
"I own this store."
The manager gasped.
"No..."
May you like
Adrian calmly corrected her.
"I own this company."
