CHAPTER 2 — THE PROOF IN THE FROSTING
“This is fake,” Adrian snapped instantly. “Security—take her away!”
But the waitress shook her head, tears forming.
“There’s more.”
Before anyone could react, she pulled a small evidence kit from her bag and handed a sample of frosting to a man stepping forward from the crowd.
A doctor.
He frowned. “I need a chemical indicator.”
Someone rushed it to him.
The test strip touched the frosting.
Within seconds—
It changed color.
Dark red.
The doctor’s face hardened.
“This contains a strong sedative compound. Large dosage. Not accidental.”
A wave of horror spread through the guests.
Claire staggered back. “Adrian… what is this?”
“I didn’t do anything!” he shouted, but his voice cracked for the first time.
And then—
Sirens.
Off-duty officers in the room moved instantly.
Adrian bolted.
