The destroyer USS Resolute had been conducting rescue operations during a violent storm.
An explosion tore through the engine compartment.
Steel twisted.
Fire spread.
Seawater poured inside.
Twenty-three sailors were trapped behind a collapsing pressure door.
Someone had to hold it open.
Celeste never hesitated.
The steel became red-hot beneath her hands.
Her uniform caught fire.
The flesh on her back burned as molten fragments rained down.
She didn't let go.
