CHAPTER 3 — THE LETTER GRANDMOTHER LEFT BEHIND

CHAPTER 3 — THE LETTER GRANDMOTHER LEFT BEHIND

Three weeks later, I remained in the rehabilitation unit.

Doctors still couldn't say whether I would walk again.

But the investigation had moved faster than anyone expected.

The recovered footage showed Tyler shoving me.

It showed Marcus disabling cameras after the fall.

It showed my parents standing by without helping.

Every angle told the same story.

The district attorney filed charges.

Attempted assault.

Evidence tampering.

Obstruction of justice.

Then my attorney arrived with something unexpected.

A sealed envelope.

"Your grandmother instructed me to deliver this only if someone challenged her will."

Inside was a handwritten letter.

Her familiar script brought tears to my eyes.

My dearest Bridget,
If you are reading this, someone has mistaken kindness for weakness.

She explained why she had left everything to me.

Not because I was her favorite.

Because I was the only one who never treated love like a transaction.

She ended with one sentence that stayed with me forever.

"An inheritance can build a business, but only character can preserve it."

I folded the letter carefully.

May you like

For the first time since the fall...

I smiled.
