CHAPTER 11 — THE FINAL EXPERIMENT

CHAPTER 11 — THE FINAL EXPERIMENT

The photograph remained on the screen.

A child.

A small boy.

Standing beside Rafael Velasco.

The resemblance was impossible to ignore.

The eyes.

The expression.

The scar.

NicolĂĄs stared at the image like he was looking at a stranger.

But deep inside

he knew.

The stranger was himself.

“No.”

The word came out quietly.

Almost like a child refusing to believe something painful.

“No.”

SofĂa looked at him.

“Nicolás
”

He stepped backward.

“My father never told me.”

Nobody spoke.

Because everyone understood.

The truth was no longer about the people around him.

It was about him.

The countdown continued.

03:42

The laboratory shook.

Dust fell from the ceiling.

The destruction sequence was already active.

But nobody moved.

Because Rafael had done exactly what he always did.

He had created a moment where the truth and survival fought against each other.

Alejandro looked at the screen.

“Subject N-01.”

His voice was almost a whisper.

“Nicolás
”

NicolĂĄs looked at him.

“What?”

Alejandro pointed at the file.

“Your name.”

The file contained information.

Not only about Mateo.

Not only about Diego.

About him.

SUBJECT N-01 — ORIGINAL SUCCESS

SofĂa read the report.

Her face changed.

“What does this mean?”

NicolĂĄs did not answer.

Because the memories were coming back.

Not all.

Only pieces.

A room.

White walls.

A man's voice.

Rafael.

His father's voice.

Pain.

Fear.

And a little boy sitting alone.

“I was a child.”

NicolĂĄs finally spoke.

Everyone looked at him.

“I remember pieces.”

He touched his head.

“Not everything.”

Alejandro moved closer.

“Your memories were altered.”

NicolĂĄs looked at him.

“Why?”

Alejandro looked at the files.

“Because you survived.”

The answer was terrifying.

“You were the first.”

The truth unfolded through the documents.

Esteban Velasco did not begin Genesis with random children.

He began with his own family.

He believed the Velasco bloodline was special.

That power, intelligence, and emotional control could be strengthened.

NicolĂĄs was the first experiment.

The first child exposed to controlled environments.

Fear.

Isolation.

Pressure.

Observation.

But something happened that Esteban did not expect.

NicolĂĄs adapted.

He became exactly what his father wanted.

Strong.

Focused.

Unbreakable.

But Esteban misunderstood the result.

He thought NicolĂĄs had lost emotion.

The truth was different.

NicolĂĄs had buried it.

The laboratory alarm became louder.

02:30

SofĂa grabbed the files.

“We need to leave.”

Nobody moved.

She looked at them.

“Now.”

NicolĂĄs stared at the photograph.

“My entire life
”

His voice broke.

“Was built on a lie.”

SofĂa stepped closer.

“No.”

He looked at her.

“The lie was created around you.”

A pause.

“But you chose what you became.”

The words reached him.

Because for years he believed he was only the product of his family.

His father.

His empire.

His blood.

But maybe he was still capable of choosing.

They began escaping.

Alejandro carried the equipment containing the research files.

Valeria stayed beside Mateo.

And NicolĂĄs walked last.

Like he always did.

Protecting everyone.

But this time, not because he controlled them.

Because he loved them.

Then the laboratory door locked.

Automatically.

Everyone stopped.

“What happened?”

Alejandro looked at the control panel.

“Someone activated security.”

The speakers turned on.

Rafael's voice filled the room.

“You always were my favorite subject.”

NicolĂĄs looked around.

“Show yourself.”

A laugh.

“Still giving orders.”

The screens activated.

Rafael appeared.

Older.

Calm.

Satisfied.

“You never understood, Nicolás.”

“Understand what?”

“That you won.”

Silence.

NicolĂĄs frowned.

“What?”

Rafael smiled.

“You think Genesis was about making monsters.”

A pause.

“It wasn't.”

The screen showed old footage.

NicolĂĄs as a child.

Then Alejandro.

Then Diego.

Then Mateo.

“Genesis was about creating survivors.”

SofĂa looked disgusted.

“You call that survival?”

Rafael ignored her.

“The world is cruel.”

A pause.

“Children who cannot adapt will be destroyed.”

NicolĂĄs stared.

“And you decided to destroy them first.”

Rafael smiled.

“That is why you were different.”

The words hit him.

“You understood.”

“No.”

NicolĂĄs stepped closer to the screen.

“I survived you.”

Silence.

For the first time, Rafael looked uncertain.

01:15

The countdown continued.

Rafael's expression changed.

“You still don't see it.”

“What?”

“The final experiment.”

Everyone froze.

Rafael looked at Mateo.

“The child was never the experiment.”

SofĂa tightened her arms around the baby.

“Then what was?”

Rafael smiled.

“You.”

NicolĂĄs stopped.

“Me?”

“Yes.”

The screen showed a final file.

GENESIS FINAL PHASE: SUBJECT N-01

Rafael continued.

“We needed to know if the first subject could become something else.”

A pause.

“Something beyond survival.”

NicolĂĄs stared.

“What are you talking about?”

“The ability to love.”

Nobody spoke.

Rafael continued.

“Your father believed emotion was weakness.”

A pause.

“I wanted to prove him wrong.”

SofĂa understood.

Rafael had not only been testing children.

He had been testing NicolĂĄs.

Could a man created through pain still love?

Could someone raised without compassion become a father?

00:30

The system began its final countdown.

The laboratory would collapse.

Rafael's final message appeared.

“You were the final experiment, Nicolás.”

The screen showed Mateo.

“Not him.”

The lights flickered.

“And you failed.”

NicolĂĄs looked confused.

Then Rafael smiled.

“Because you loved him.”

The door finally unlocked.

They ran.

Behind them, the laboratory began destroying itself.

Fire.

Smoke.

Broken equipment.

Years of secrets disappearing.

But before leaving, NicolĂĄs stopped.

He looked back.

At the place where his childhood had been stolen.

Then he walked away.

They escaped the tunnel seconds before the explosion.

The mansion shook.

Windows shattered.

Smoke rose from beneath the east wing.

Everyone stood outside.

Alive.

But changed.

Mateo slept peacefully in Valeria's arms.

SofĂa looked at NicolĂĄs.

“You okay?”

He looked at the burning mansion.

“No.”

A pause.

“But I will be.”

Then Alejandro approached.

For years, they had been enemies.

Brothers separated by lies.

Now they stood together.

“I owe you an apology.”

NicolĂĄs looked at him.

“For what?”

“For believing you abandoned me.”

A silence.

NicolĂĄs answered:

“I thought you were dead.”

Alejandro nodded.

“I know.”

For the first time in twelve years

the brothers embraced.

Not because the past was forgotten.

Because they finally stopped letting it control them.

But their moment did not last.

A security officer approached.

“Señor Velasco.”

NicolĂĄs turned.

“What?”

The officer handed him a recovered device.

“We found this outside the laboratory.”

A small screen.

Still active.

A final message.

Not from Rafael.

From someone else.

A name appeared.

One that made everyone freeze.

DR. ELENA SALAZAR

SofĂa looked at NicolĂĄs.

“Who is that?”

His face changed.

Because he knew the name.

Everyone in the room knew the name.

The only person who had disappeared from the Genesis records.

The person who helped create the project.

The person believed to be dead.

NicolĂĄs whispered:

“Victor's wife.”

The screen turned on.

A woman's voice spoke.

“You destroyed the laboratory.”

A pause.

“But you forgot something.”

The image appeared.

A woman holding a file.

And behind her

a child.

A child who looked exactly like Mateo.

May you like

She smiled.

“The final experiment is not finished.”
